When was H & M created?
H & M was founded by Erling Persson in 1947, when he opened the first store in Västerås, Sweden. The store, which was originally called Hennes (Swedish for "his"), sold exclusively women's clothing.
In 1964 a store was opened in Norway. In 1968, Persson bought the Mauritz Widforss hunting clothing store in Stockholm, which meant the inclusion of a menswear collection. The same year the name changed to Hennes & Mauritz. Years later the company began to be called simply H & M.
In Ireland, *H & M landed in 2005 and has since become a store with a high reputation in the Irish market.
